Concessionary Fares

From 1st April 2008

Free National Concessionary Travel

England

From 1st April 2008, people aged over 60 years of age and people with disabilities are entitled to free off-peak bus travel across the whole of England.

In order to claim free bus travel, passengers must have a new-style England National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) bus pas. The ENCTS scheme is administered by the local travel authorities (usually district councils or PTE's) and it is their responsibility to issue bus passes to those who apply. Some authorities have issued temporary ENCTS passes and these can be used in conjunction with an old style pass for a limited period.

In the case of the ENCTS scheme, 'off peak' is determined as being from 0930hrs to 2300hrs on Mondays to Fridays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. Eligible passholders will be able to travel on our buses free of charge at these times.

In order to claim these reduced or free fares, passengers must present to the driver their ENCTS pass. Passengers must state their destination to the driver when boarding. A zero-valued ticket will be issued showing the boarding and destination stage. Tickets must be kept by the passenger and be available for inspection if necessary throughout the duration of the journey.
