Schoolday Bus Services

In addition to our mainstream network of services, we also provide some additional journeys on these routes and many additional services that operate during term-time only. These are generally provided in order to supplement our existing routes in order to provide additional capacity in order to cope with the additional demand for transport created by school and college students travelling at peak times to and from their place of study.

In all cases, these routes are open and available for use by any member of the public and standard adult or concessionary fares apply. Unfortunately, as many of these additional journeys are provided by us under contract to local authorities, it is not always possible to offer our full range of tickets for use on these services. We advise all customers to check their ticket's validity before travelling.

Generally Rover tickets and GMsaver tickets cannot be used on contracted services but usually, multi-operator tickets such as the System One in Greater Manchester can be used (where applicable) and the best option for customers using these services regularly would often be to take advantage of the discounted travel schemes. Please check your ticket's availability before purchasing.

Unfortunately, at the moment, we are not always able to provide fully-accessible vehicles on some of these additional routes / journeys. Passenger demand for certain journeys also means that double deck buses are used on some routes and these are currently not accessible to all passengers. We have been investing heavily in our fleet over recent years and shall continue to do so and now only a very small percentage of the buses in our fleet do not provide step-free access.

Most schools within our main operating area of Bury, Rochdale and Rossendale areas are served by our buses as are some schools further afield in Bolton, Blackburn, Burnley, Manchester & Middleton and Todmorden.

Most of the buses used on schoolday only journeys are vehicles dedicated to the routes. Most of our buses now feature CCTV equipment which has noticably improved safety and the behaviour of schoolchildren travelling on these routes. It should be stressed that bad behaviour is really only a problem with a minority of school-age passengers and we work in co-operation with Lancashire County Council's Safer Travel Unit and Transport for Greater Manchester to improve the travelling environment for all concerned by ensuring pupils misbehaving are disciplined in school accordingly.
