A single fare is the fare for a one-way journey, purchased from the driver when you board the bus. You can buy a single ticket from the stop where you board to any other stop on the same bus route, and through Single Fares are also available to some other points on selected routes.
A single fare is the fare that the bus driver will automatically charge if you do not request any other type of ticket, or present a pre-purchased ticket, a discount pass or permit.
Under Five's
Children aged under 5 travel free. Discounted fares are available to all children from the age of 5 years and upwards. Children under the age of 5 are carried free of charge.
Upon reaching secondary school age, children must have an Under 16's photocard in order to prove their age to drivers and therefore claim the discounted fare. Under 16's photocards are now valid up until the 31st August after the person's 16th birthday, allowing them to travel at the discounted after throughout the school year. Drivers will charge the normal adult fare to persons without an Under 16's photocard if they suspect to be over the age of 15.
These cards are available from GMPTE travelshops throughout Greater Manchester (ie bury Interchange, Rochdale Bus Station or Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester). You can now apply for a Under 16's photocard at the LCC travel office at Rawtenstall Library, or alternatively call into our offices at Knowsley Park Way, Haslingden. A valid birth certificate and passport sized photograph (to include on the pass) are all that is required to claim an identity card. No fee is charged.
Discounted Weekly Rover tickets are available to children in possession of an Under 16's ID card.
Within Greater Manchester however, children travel at the 'flat' concessionary rate, currently 80p, regardless of the length of the journey. These fares are subsidised by GMPTE. This applies to journeys made which are wholly within the Greater Manchester Concessionary area.
In the West Yorkshire area, children aged 5 to 15 pay half the adult fare, however anyone aged 11 to 15 must be in possession of a valid Metro Young person's Photocard. - Click Here for details. These fares are subsidised by Metro.
On commercially operated services in other areas the reduced rate depends on the day and time of travel with more reductions available to children at off-peak times.
A simple fare scale applies with just three bands. In order to promote off-peak us of our bus services, on Schooldays after 1630 and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and School Holidays children can now travel at the flat rate of £1.00 per journey.
Child Fares are as follows:
