Would you like a career as a Bus Driver
with Rossendale Transport?
We
operate buses in Rossendale, Bury and Rochdale
from our two depots; in Rawtenstall
(Bacup Road) and Rochdale (Corporation
Road, Sparth Bottoms).
We are
currently recruiting drivers for both depots and we welcome applications
from existing PCV (bus) licence holders to start work right away (after
training) as well as holders of 'clean' car driving licences to enter our
in-house PCV driving school.
Because
we operate buses from the early morning to late evening, our drivers are
required to work differing shifts according to a pre-set rota. Due to the
different levels of demand for transport at different times of the day
more drivers are required during the peak day(time) with a lot fewer
drivers
required to work late (evening) duties. These late finishing duties are
shared out fairly throughout the
rota, amongst all driving staff. We operate buses seven days a week and
usually 362 days a year
(usually no bus services are operated on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Years Day). A drivers usual working week
is around 39 hours.
Enhanced rates are paid for evening and Sunday work, as well as for
overtime after the 39
hours working has been exceeded.
All staff are entitled to free travel on our buses and we offer a
discounted travel scheme to employees
spouses. A smart uniform is worn by all drivers and is provided free of
charge.
We have
invested millions of pounds in new buses over the last few years and our
fleet is extremely modern with all mainstream bus services (excluding
schoolday journeys) being operated by Low Floor, fully accessible buses.
We operate a large number of Dennis Dart Low Floor Buses (S to 52 reg.),
Volvo B7RLE low floor buses (02 and 53 reg.) and our latest investment has
been in 23 Optare Solos (04, 54 and 05 reg). Double Deckers are confined
to schoolday journeys and are mainly our youthful (S reg) Volvo Olympians.
Almost all buses are now fitted with digital CCTV
systems for both passenger
and driver safety.
As well as driving, a bus driver must be customer focussed and be very
much a 'people person,'
communicating regularly on a one-on-one basis with passengers. Drivers are
very much their own boss;
once they leave the depot each day they must be capable of working on
their own with minimal supervision
whilst operating as required by the timetables and route instructions
given. Cash handling is a key part of
the job with most fared still tendered in cash and therefore a reasonable
level of numeracy is required.
If you feel that you can
help to provide a service to the community and assist us in our
constant aim to raise the standard of bus travel we'd really like to
hear from you.
