Fares for
Children
Children aged under 5 travel free.
Children aged between the age of 5 and 15 years (inclusive)
travel at the discounted fare of 80p, regardless
of the length of the journey being made.
Children aged from 13 years upwards should present an
Under 16's photocard to the driver in order
to travel at the discounted fare. We advise all children to get
an Under 16's photocard upon reaching secondary school age. With
a photocard, the 80p fare is also available up until
31st August after the person's 16th birthday,
allowing them to travel at the discounted after throughout the
school year. As the discounted fare is subsidised by the local
authorities, drivers are required to charge the normal (adult)
fare for the journey being made to persons they suspect to be
over the age of 15, if a valid photocard is not available.
Under 16's photocards are available from
GMPTE travelshops throughout Greater Manchester (ie. at
Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, Bury Interchange or Rochdale Bus
Station) or alternatively call into our offices at
Knowsley Park Way, Haslingden. A valid birth
certificate and passport sized photograph (to include on the
pass) are all that is required to claim an identity card. No
fee is charged.
Concessionary Travel
Anyone with a valid English National Concessionary Travel Scheme
(ENCTS) travel pass may travel free of charge on your 167
buses after 0930hrs on Mondays to Fridays and all day on
Saturdays. Before 0930hrs, people with ENCTS passes issued
locally by GMPTE can travel at the flat fare of 80p per journey
regardless of the length of the journey. GMPTE Concession Plus
passes travel free at all times.
We are one of the first bus companies in the country to equip
our buses with smart card readers which ensure that the
appropriate concession is given to the . To use your ENCTS
travel pass simply place your card on the smart card reader (on
top of our driver's ticket machine. The ticket machine will then
read the data which is encoded on your card and allow the free
concession to be given. You will need to tell our driver where
you are going to so that he can issue a ticket (even where
the journey is free) to the correct destination.
The ENCTS scheme is funded by HM Government and administered by
the local authorities and it is important that tickets are
issued correctly so that the payments made to bus operators for
transporting passholders can be audited.
Fares for Dogs
Guide Dogs for The Blind, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, and dogs
registered as Assistance Dogs are carried Free of Charge at all
times. Such dogs are also carried free when under training.
Other dogs may be carried at the
discretion of the bus driver, at a flat rate charge of £1.00 per journey made.
